UDC Electrifies Old Glory (excerpt) | The Marshall-Robert E. Lee Chapter No. 552 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in mid-Missouri marked its 100th anniversary in 2002. In the name of this special occasion, a campaign was started to put the unique but broken "electric flag" back up and in working order, the flag that the chapter had given the county in 1917. It hung on the north side of the Saline County Courthouse for 85 years, but it had not worked for the last two decades. | Judy Frerking -- Saline Silhouettes, 2009 |
