I was cold, alone, and tired, but I had a job to do. I needed to find the key; I will find the key.I’ve been here for three months, two weeks and five days. Mikle and I are starting to get along, I just have to wait until the right time to take action. Although Mikle used to not like me I’ve shown him that I have changed and that I can do my job. He doesn’t know why I've changed but he thinks it’s a good thing. He doesn't know it's for my own benefit. Mikle and I talk a lot, I have really gained his trust. All I need is just a little more time to take action with my plan.Every morning Mikle whispers my name to wake me up before everyone else's rude awakening. Mikle whispers, "Jason, Jason," to wake me up before that loud alarm. Some days I don't hear him so he sits next to my jail cell and sometimes he falls asleep. I hope he falls asleep today, then I'll take action.I've stayed up all night waiting for him to come to my cell. I hear him whisper, "Jason, Jason," but I don’t move, waiting for him to take a seat outside my cell. I wait a few minutes for him to fall asleep then open my eyes to see if Mikle is awake; he's asleep.I get out of bed as quietly as I can and see the ring of keys on his brown leather belt. I tiptoe to him so that I camd grab all the keys off his belt. The jail cell bars make it difficult to keep the keys from jingling. I snatch the biggest key because Mikle uses it every time he enters and exits my cell. I return all the other keys to his belt and tiptoe back to my bed.I get in my bed right as the alarm goes off. I get back out of bed and Mikle gets up off the floor. Mikle tells me how he tried to wake me up but I must have slept very deeply because I didn't wake up. Mikle tells me to go and head to the cafeteria for breakfast.I change into new clothes and hide the key in my waistband so no one can see or find it in my cell. I go to the cafeteria and act like the day is the same as every other. No one knows of my plan except for one person! I eat my breakfast and start heading to the laundry room. I put all of the clothes in the washers and dryers, and I folded the clean clothes from yesterday's laundry.As I finish the laundry the lunch call goes on the speakers. I head to the cafeteria, I get my lunch and treat it like it's a normal day. No one knows today is my last in this place. I head back to my cell after I eat lunch and I start thinking of our plane. Josh and I have had this plane just in case either of us get caught. Josh is my buddy. He and I used to make fake IDs for people and we were caught, but I told the cops I worked alone.Josh told me, "I have a plane waiting for you when you get out, and a new identity." When I leave tonight I will have to go to Josh and my apartment. Once I get to our apartment I will pack my things and fly to the island which no one knows about, except Josh and I. There is a small island that Josh’s grandfather, who was an explorer, told him about. Josh told me he would fly me to the island his grandfather always talked about, but first I have to leave this place.The dinner call goes on the speakers but I decide to skip dinner tonight and let myself get some rest before the big plan. I wake up to the sound of the door that leads to my way out of this place. I have to get ready but I have plenty of time. Mikle usually goes to sleep when the prisoners are in their cells for the night.I wait about an hour to make sure all the other prisoners are asleep, and I then leave my cell and take the key out of the waistband of my pants. I unlock the door that leads to the rest of the jail. Once I get away from the cells I have to find my way to the door that leads to the outside. I have to stay hidden from the motion sensors, which will set off an alarm to wake the guards if motion is detected. Thankfully, I know that there is a hallway that has no sensors. I can make it to the hall and find my way out.I am very quiet as I start walking to the hall. Finally, when I reach the end of the hall I see the door and I am almost out! I crouch down as I walk to the door. Once I get to the door I realize that I need the key to leave. Luckily, I already have it.
I reach into my waistband to retrieve the key. Thankfully it is still there and I am able to quickly get out of the jail. Now I have to stay hidden until I get to the gate. I run as fast as I can to get to the gate, but a guard sees me. I rush over the gate and run as fast as I can away from the jail. I hear the guards chasing after me, but I know I can't look back as that would only slow me down. I take a left and go behind a house to hide. I see the guards keep running past me, and I get up and run the opposite direction of the guards.I feel like I'm far enough away from the jail to look for help. I walk up to the big gray house and knock on the door. A blonde lady answers the door. I ask her if she can point me in the right direction of the North Western Apartments, and she tells me to go down two streets and take a left. I thank the helpful lady, then start walking.I find myself at the North Western Apartments, and go to Apartment 6C and start knocking on the door. Josh answers! I quickly go inside the apartment because I start to hear police sirens. I tell Josh everything that happened and how I got out. Josh hands me a passport and a new ID, along with some new clothes. Josh says, "Just as I promised you, a new passport and ID are waiting for you."After I thank Josh he gets on his phone and makes a phone call. Josh hangs up the phone and tells me to get my stuff because we have a flight to catch! Josh and I head to his car in a rush and throw our stuff in the car. Josh starts driving to the plane. Finally, we see the plane.Josh pulls into what looks to be an abandoned airport. We get out of the car and rush to the plane. As we load our things from the car to the plane we hear police sirens coming our way. We get on the plane. As Josh and I look out the window we feel the plane begin to move. In the instant that we take off we can see a police car approaching the plane. Josh looks at me and says, "there's a new life waiting for us on the island that Grandpa explored." |
